Heart of Waves

there she stood

the wind on her hair

the sand on her feet

the thick salty air of the sea

enveloped like mass around her

the fishes on oil-filled pans, vegetables dipped in yellow batters of masala

a stale cigeratte scent in the air

trails of vodka on her ifngers

her heart, as fragile as the waves

rocking to the sway of the wind

high up and down low

in currents and torrents,

and like the waves

there’s nothing in the world

that could put to rest,

her fragile heart.
